Diary of a Watchmaker

March 15, 2018

I wouldn't be a true watchmaker if I couldn't make some watch parts right?

The small wire pictured above and nicknamed 'the eye-lash spring' proves my point. I fabricated it to replace a centre seconds pinion tension spring for an  automatic IWC during servicing.

You might ask what does this part do and why is it so important? Well, the seconds pinion runs through the centre of the watch, with the seconds hand attached to it dial side. If the springs tension is too loose or tight, the watch will not run correctly. So it's vital to the running and accuracy of the timepiece.

See the red circled area in the photo below and a closeup to the right to see where the spring fits.

Is it time to have your watch serviced? We offer obligation free estimates.
