Diary of a Watchmaker

January 10, 2018

This is a beautiful antique Victorian pocket watch from the 1830's and is a remarkable example of engineering for its time. It's a fusee key wound watch with a helical hairspring, which is virtually irreplaceable, and a diamond end stone. It's also chronometer certified. The first ships chronometer's were introduced in 1762 when it was extremely important to have accurate time keeping for navigation purposes.

It was originally presented to a very senior ranking member of the Royal Navy as a token of their esteem and regard.

The full hunter case is manufactured from 18ct gold and weighs over 100 grams in its entirety. The dial is nicely embellished with engraved scrolls, and has lovely green, white and yellow gold scroll and flower appliques to the outer edges.
